1. Tell us about your last book in one sentence.
What happens when one’s perception of reality breaks down — Alice, although a stand-alone novel, is the second in my Toni Mendez P.I. adventures and is a plot twisting psychological thriller set in my home town, Cape Town, South Africa.
2. What’s the last book you read that blew you away?
I am currently reading The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas. It is a wonderful novel about four women who pioneered time travel. Of course something goes wrong and a suspenseful drama of loyalty, friendship and intrigue emerges. Moreover, Mascarenhas has devised a satisfyingly credible and innovative world in which the usual intricacies and paradoxes of time travel seem almost everyday. I’m also still reeling from the powerful punch that was Naomi Alderman’s The Power!
3. Do you happen to have any celebrity crushes at the moment? 😉
Gillian Anderson just gets better and better! I especially liked her in The Fall. Her performance in that was ground breaking in her portrayal of a strong, powerful, complex, yet feminine woman.
4. What are you most proud of as a writer?
Showing up at the page each day! I find the process of writing challenging and despite having published a number of books now, each time is perhaps the closest I will ever get to giving birth. Oh, but what joy when those little creations are finally out there!
5. What’s next for you?
I am very excited about my next project. It is a collection of interlinked romance novels revolving around the life and community of the beautiful seaside village of Skala Eressos, Lesbos. This is not only a perfect setting for love to blossom but it is also rich in history and deeply entrenched in mythology and our lesbian culture as the place Sappho lived and wrote her poetry.
